Origin: Karnataka, Wayanad (Kerala), and Tamil Nadu
Profile: Powerful, Chocolatey, and Clean
India Robusta Cherry AA is a world-class example of “specialty-grade” Robusta. In India, the term “Cherry” refers to natural-process (unwashed) coffee, where the beans are sun-dried inside the fruit. The “AA” grade combined with “Screen 18” signifies the largest, most premium beans available.
Unlike the harsh, rubbery Robusta found in low-grade commercial fillers, Indian Robusta is often grown under shade at respectable altitudes (500–1,000 meters). This results in a “clean” cup that maintains the high caffeine and heavy body Robusta is known for, but with a much smoother, more palatable flavor profile.
Body: Extremely heavy and syrupy; creates an incredible mouthfeel.
Notes: Dominant notes of dark baker’s chocolate, toasted oats, and roasted peanuts.
Acidity: Near zero; very flat and low, making it exceptionally smooth.
Finish: Bold and “earthy” with a lingering bittersweet cocoa aftertaste.
Indian Robusta AA is the “gold standard” for professional blenders and espresso enthusiasts:
The “Italian Style” Espresso Blend: Adding 10–20% of this Robusta to Arabica beans creates a massive, long-lasting crema and a caffeine “punch” that Arabica alone cannot achieve.
High-Octane Filter Coffee: Ideal for those who enjoy a “strong” traditional cup that handles milk and sugar exceptionally well.
Vietnamese-Style Coffee: Its natural chocolate-nut profile pairs perfectly with sweetened condensed milk.
Uniformity: The large Screen 18 size ensures that every bean roasts at the exact same rate, preventing the “burnt” notes often found in uneven, smaller-grade Robusta.
Density: These large beans are dense and heat-resistant, allowing them to take a dark roast while remaining sweet rather than charred.
