Origin: Karnataka Region (Baba Budan Giri, Coorg)
Profile: Clean, Intense, and Velvet-Smooth
Kaapi Royale is the “Champagne of Robusta.” It is a premium, Washed Robusta that represents the absolute pinnacle of Indian coffee processing. Unlike “Cherry” (Natural) Robusta, Kaapi Royale is prepared using the same meticulous wet-process methods as high-end Arabica. This eliminates the rustic, earthy edges of traditional Robusta, leaving behind a bean that is incredibly clean, sophisticated, and powerful.
The Screen 17 designation ensures a uniform, medium-large bean size that roasts exceptionally evenly. In the coffee world, this is the bean that changes people’s minds about what Robusta can be.
Body: Massive, creamy, and “round.” It feels like drinking heavy cream.
Notes: Clean dark chocolate, roasted hazelnuts, and a distinct malty sweetness. Zero “rubbery” or “burnt” notes.
Acidity: Very low, but with a refined “cleanliness” that comes from the washing process.
Finish: Smooth, elegant, and lingering, with a flavor reminiscent of Dutch-processed cocoa.
Kaapi Royale is designed for high-end espresso applications where quality cannot be compromised:
The “Super-Premium” Espresso Blend: Often used at a 10–15% ratio to add a thick, golden crema and a “velvet” texture to Arabica-based shots.
Single-Origin Robusta Espresso: One of the few Robustas that can be served on its own to showcase its chocolatey, nutty profile.
The “Secret” Ingredient: Roasters use it to increase caffeine and body without introducing the “funk” of natural-process Robustas.
Washed Process: By washing the beans, the harsh “phenolic” flavors often found in Robusta are stripped away, leaving only the sweet, nutty core.
Polished Appearance: These beans are often “double-polished,” meaning they are shiny and uniform in the bag, looking as beautiful as any specialty Arabica.
Traceability: Kaapi Royale usually comes from prestigious estates that treat their Robusta trees with the same care (pruning, shade-growing, and hand-picking) as their best Arabica.
